Angels in  Aberdeen salon is one of the six regional finalists for the Scottish Hairdresser of the Year Award in HJ’s 2010 British Hairdressing Awards.

Launched in 1984 by Hairdressers Journal International and sponsored for the past 26 years by Schwarzkopf Professional, the awards celebrate and reward the best of British hairdressing creativity, and have fast become the ‘Oscars’ of the hairdressing world. 

To enter the competition, hairdressers working in salons throughout the United Kingdom have to submit four images, to fulfil the competitions criteria, which is set down by Hairdressers Journal International. Janer Stewartentered the ScottishHairdresser of the Year category and has secured a place in the final of the Awards. She will now have to submit another four images, which will be judged along with the first four by industry experts, members of the British Hairdressing Awards Hall of Fame and hair journalists from the most influential, and fashion forward consumer magazines.

“Each year the standard of entries in each category becomes more creative and inspirational,” comments Publisher/Editor-in-Chief of Hairdressers Journal International, Jayne Lewis-Orr. “British hairdressing is perceived throughout the world as being the best, and the British Hairdressing Awards acknowledge skill, creativity and excellence in hairdressing. Janer is a very worthy finalist.”

Janerwill have to wait until Monday 22nd November 2010, to find out if she will be awarded the title of Scottish Hairdresser of the Year, when she attends a glittering awards ceremony at the Grosvenor House, a JW Marriot Hotel, London. The winners of the fifteen specialist and regional categories, along with the prestigious British Hairdresser of the Year Award, will be announced by a leading media personality.

Finalist, Janer added, “I was delighted when I received my letter telling me I had made it to the finals. This year has been an incredible one for the salon.  To be recognised by your peers as being one of the country's leading hairdressers, and being involved in the British Hairdressing Awards is a wonderful feeling and a fantastic achievement."

Close to one thousand guests gathered to celebrate some of the brightest and best of North east business at the Northern Star Business Awards 2009.

The prestigious event, now in its sixth year, is the flagship event of the Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber of Commerce and celebrates the achievements of businesses from across all sectors of the business community.

Winner of the coveted Woman of the Year Award was none other than our very own Tracey Devine!

The event was hosted by Ben Fogle, all round adventurer and one of the nation’s favourite television presenters. The North-east business community gave Ben a traditional warm welcome as he kept the evening’s entertainment awards ceremony on track.

Chamber Chief Executive, Robert Collier, said: “We’ve had a top class event tonight with some outstanding individuals and businesses taking their rightful place on the winner’s podium. Our finalists represented all sectors of our business community and each one is a significant contributor to our economy.

With Tracey Devine having won the prestigious title of British Hairdressing Awards Scottish Hairdresser of the Year for 2006, 2007 and 2008 it meant that it was time for her to hang her hat up in the British Hairdressing Awards Hall of Fame to make room for new talent in 2009. Hot on her heels was Janer Stewart of Angels @ Nuffield who was not only one of six salons throughout Scotland nominated for this title but took the trophy!

Janer was joined by Husband Mark and salon well-wishers at a glittering awards ceremony at the Grosvenor House Hotel London, where the winners of the fifteen specialist and regional categories, and the prestigious British Hairdresser of the Year Award, were made by Dermot O’Leary.

Tracey Devine was saluted as a member of hairdressings iconic Hall of Fame at the 2009 British Hairdressing Awards in recognition of winning the title of British Hairdressing Awards Scottish Hairdresser of the Year.

Having scooped the title of Scottish Hairdresser of the Year for three consecutive years, Tracey Devine has earned her place in the British Hairdressing Awards Hall of Fame.  Presented with the award by none other than Dermot O’Leary – Tracey was delighted to hand over her crown that very same evening to her successor Janer Stewart.

Aberdeenshire Angel Siobhan McGuire once again made it through to the final twelve of the nationally acclaimed Fellowship for British Hairdressing F.A.M.E. (Fellowship Academy of Merit and Excellence) team 2009.

The Fellowship for British Hairdressing F.A.M.E. Team was founded to promote young, up-and-coming talent on the British hairdressing scene – something that talented Angel Siobhan is hopefully set to join for 2010!

Siobhan has had a passion for hairdressing ever since she started out as a Saturday girl at her local salon, Angels, in Aberdeen. She has since then swiftly worked her way up the professional ladder to become a Senior Stylist with a loyal following of clients and an exceptional catalogue of industry awards indicative of her talent over the years.   She now manages the Angels salon in St. Andrews Street, Aberdeen.

Since learning the news Siobhan has had her hairdressing and presentation skills tested to the limit, as each potential team member was scrutinized at every level to gain entrance to the highly popular F.A.M.E. Team.   Initially Siobhan submitted a detailed CV and sample photograph of her work to earn a place in the final (one of only 24 places!), followed by a presentation where she re-created her photographic look and presented another model as well as undertook an in-depth interview with the panel of industry judges.  Siobhan was then further tested on her showcasing skills live on the Fellowship for British Hairdressing Stage at Salon International - the UK’s leading hairdressing exhibition, held at London’s ExCel on 19th October.

Siobhan along with Tracey attended the Fellowship for British Hairdressing Awards luncheon on 7th December where she once again learned that she had been unsuccessful.

As a member of the F.A.M.E. team Siobhan would join three other finalists to experience a year of action packed with fabulous opportunities tailored for an up-and-coming hairdresser – including the chance to showcase her talents at the Hair Expo in Australia.

The clearly talented one-to-watch, Manager of St. Andrews Street, Angels – Siobhan McGuire made it through to a national photographic competition as just one of six Newcomer’s of the Year!  

The annual British Hairdressing Awards is the hairdressing industry’s equivalent to the Oscar’s.  
Her collection entitled UnDoNe – also graced the cover of the  Hairdressers Journal magazine at the annual Salon Exhibition.
